Different Types of Survey Questions

Paid survey questionsTaking your very first paid online survey is quite exciting answering those survey questions hence may shock or confuse you because it’s your first time.  Believe it or not, there is not one basic survey type that every company uses. A survey can contain many different sections and each section can use a different type of survey questions.

Each survey can use one or more than one of the following types of survey questions:

  • Free Answer. When a survey asks you a question and has a text box for you to type in your answer, this is called a free response question. You see these text boxes every day, but they aren’t used that often in surveys. Part of the reason is that an individual would have to read every answer you typed in, and it would be difficult and expensive to understand the results of your survey.
  • Multiple Choices. Multiple choices are one of the most common, if not the most common, type of survey question. After a question is asked, you will have multiple answers to choose from. Usually you will also have the option to choose “I don’t know”, or “Not sure”. This type of answer can be read and sorted by a computer.
  • Scales. Many surveys will ask your opinion based on a number from 1-3, 1-5, or 1-10, where each number has its own specific spot on a spectrum. The middle number is always neutral, and the number 1 or the highest number means you have a strong opinion. This type of survey question is also read by a computer.
  • Two-Part Surveys. Two-part surveys are typically used when a company wants you to complete one part of the survey now, and then a second part of the survey later. In between the first and the second survey they may send you a product to try or have you watch a specific TV commercial. Usually the second part of the survey pays much better than the first part of the survey as the company wants a guarantee that you will return. Occasionally a company may decide that unless you complete both parts of the survey that you will not get paid at all.

I’ve participated in several two-part surveys where after completing the first part of the survey I had a food product mailed to me. I would be instructed to use the product, and then log in to complete the second part of the survey. This type of survey is my favorite as not only do you get paid cash through PayPal but you also receive free products.

Many web pages have a sitemap, which lists all the pages on the site so you can easily find the page you’re looking for.

Question: Is there an option to receive mailed payment instead?
Answer: Like the different ways of converting points to cash, each paid survey company also have different ways of paying. Some pay by mail, PayPal, or direct deposit. Look for the FAQ page, and always research on the company first to make sure they’re legitimate.
